Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) – Scientific name: Thylacinus cynocephalus
The Thylacine was a carnivorous marsupial which once roamed across Australia. A large population existed in Tasmania up until the 1930s when it was hunted to extinction. The last documented living animal died in captivity at the Tasmanian zoo in 1936 however there have been reported sightings to this day.
Interesting fact: The thylacine was able to open its jaws to whopping 80 degrees!
